Center for Inquiry – Pittsburgh
This month, our topic is the ethical questions surrounding assisted suicide (and, for that matter, suicide itself). Many people feel that there is nothing wrong with ending one’s life or helping someone to end their life on one’s own terms when they are suffering from a terminal illness and the physical pain is at an unmanageable level. But what about when the source of the unbearable pain is emotional or mental or extreme anguish? Is that a valid reason to wish to end one’s life? What if there is no illness or physical condition that points to a short term inevitability of death? And if the person is physically healthy, is it ethically acceptable to help them to end their life? Where do we draw the lines? Or is it too slippery a slope?
If you have ideas for a topic, please email them to pgh@centerforinquiry.net.
