Welcome to CFI’s monthly lecture and movie night series!
This month we’re doing something special. We’re hosting the Pittsburgh Premiere of the film God Loves Uganda, and raising funds to help asylees–people who are fleeing Uganda due to the new anti-LGBT law. 100% of the ticket proceeds will go to help individuals who have declared asylum in the U.S. with their legal expenses and basic needs.
More about the film:
God Loves Uganda is a powerful documentary that exposes the evangelical campaign to replace African culture with values imported from America’s Christian Right. Filmmaker Roger Ross Williams exposes the missionary movement in Uganda as an outgrowth of Africa’s colonialist past and a twenty-first century crusade to recreate a continent of people in the image and likeness of America’s most extreme fundamentalists.
The film follows American and Ugandan religious leaders fighting “sexual immorality” and missionaries trying to convince Ugandans to follow Biblical law. These actions have culminated in the passing of an anti-gay law.
God Loves Uganda has won numerous awards. Read more at www.godlovesuganda.com
