Did you know that Pittsburgh has long been a leader in the study of the sun, skies, and stars?  Directed by Dr. Dan Handley, “Undaunted: The Forgotten Giants of the
Allegheny Observatory” is a film that chronicles Pittsburgh’s role in
solving some of the mysteries of the universe.  The observatory in Riverview Park was a leader in astrophysics dating
back to the 1800s, a place where researchers discovered and studied
planets outside the solar system.  “Undaunted” is a tribute to Samuel Langley, the first director of the
observatory, and John Brashear, who began making telescopes in a
backyard shed with no more than a sixth‑grade education.  Through sheer determination, these men changed the face of science and our world!  Join Dr. Handley, a geneticist with degrees from Carnegie Mellon
University and the University of Pittsburgh, for a special movie
screening and a Q & A session.  Eat, drink, and learn with friends in a fun, relaxed setting! Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
Please RSVP to the Science Center by Thursday, March 7, even if you don’t
plan on purchasing food. If you already reserved your spot, you do not
need to do so again.
